Every day at noon the bell would ring at St. Catherine's Church. It had done so for a hundred years. One day the bell-ringer died so the church put an ad in the paper for a new bell-ringer. A guy applied and was asked to show his technique for ringing bells. He climbed into the belfry and took 10 steps back, then ran face first into the bell. The bell came back and knocked him out of the belfry and he fell 100 feet to the ground and died. People gathered and someone asked, "Who is this guy?" The priest said, "I don't know but his face sure rings a bell." The next day another man came to get the bell-ringer job at St. Catherine's. Same thing happened...he went to the belfry, took 10 steps back, and ran face first into the bell. The bell came back and knocked him out of the belfry and he fell 100 feet to the ground and died. Again people gathered and someone said, "It happened again? Does anyone know who this man is?" The priest said, "No, but he's a dead ringer for the guy who was here yesterday." From Herb Caen's column in the San Francisco Chronicle: A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He later received in the mail a ticket for $40, and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40. Several days later, he received a letter from the police department that contained another picture -- of handcuffs.
